Riot Wants To Surpass Blizzard With Its New Games
For the past decade or so, Riot Games has been all about being a single-game company, with League of Legends being its most popular title to date. Interestingly, things are starting to look different as the studio wants to develop more games.
If you are not a fan of League of Legends, it is very possible to not know who Riot even is. Sure, the game has millions of players worldwide, but it is the only title the studio is really famous for. However, all of this came to an end during the 10th anniversary live stream of the company. It is where at least seven new games – all of which span multiple genres and platforms – were revealed.
Apart from the new titles, Riot Games also announced an animated television show and a feature-length documentary. There is no doubt that after spending more than 10 years making a name for itself in the competitive gaming and esports industry, the company is ready to surpass everything that Blizzard did in the past years or so.
Recently, Blizzard has been bouncing from one controversy to another. It all started at last year’s BlizzCon, when Blizzard, known for its close-knit community, significantly misjudged the expectations of its audience. This all came when the studio decided to announce a Diablo mobile game, something that fans never really expected. As a result, many were offended and felt ridiculed. After all, they were hoping for a big secret reveal (hello, Diablo 4).
Also, at the time, most fans were already frustrated by the latest World of Warcraft expansion since it never offered something substantial. When compared with its predecessors, it almost felt like a step back. However, the issue ballooned when Blizzard’s developers provided sarcastic comments like “Don't you guys have phones?”
The latest controversy, and perhaps the final nail to the coffin, is when Blizzard banned a Hearthstone pro after he announced his support for the Hong Kong protesters. Taking all of these mishaps into account, it does make sense for Riot Games to step up. It is the perfect opportunity to show the world that they are not just a single-game company.
The new games on the company’s list are the following:
League of Legends: Wild Rift (aka League of Legends on mobile and consoles)
Legends of Runeterra
Project A (a FPS game somewhat similar to Overwatch)
League of Legends Esports Manager
Teamfight Tactics Mobile (the League version of Autochess)关注超越娱乐官网（www.sanqinnews.com）。
